The Center for Christian Studies (CCS) of Reedwood Friends Church is founded on the belief that continuing education is a healthy, normative part of adult life.
With that in mind, the Center designs its program to stimulate students both intellectually and spiritually and to provide the opportunity for adult learners to interact with specialists in a particular field of study. Most years, CCS also sponsors a Scholar in Residence, who anchors a course for one term, sometimes makes other public presentations, and participates in the worship and community life of Reedwood.
CCS course offerings cover a wide range of topics including biblical studies, Christian history and theology, ethics and spirituality, psychology, and practical ministry. Participants are expected to attend classes regularly and to keep up with class-preparation assignments.
Classes normally meet on Wednesday evenings, September through June, at 6:30 at Reedwood Friends Church. Classes are preceded by a simple, low-cost meal at 5:30. Youth programs are usually also held on those evenings at the same time as the CCS class. Nursery care is provided and there are also simultaneous classes available for grade-school children.
